COVID-19 Protocols For Vision Therapy

We look forward to being able to offer vision therapy again starting on June 18th.  As you may know, the environment and circumstances we are currently in is different from that of a few months ago.

Your health, and your safety is our number one priority. To ensure that we are able to provide a safe environment for you and for our team we have implemented some new protocols. These are in line with the guidelines and regulations set out by the College of Optometrists of Ontario and Chief Medical Officer to ensure that we do not contribute to the spread of COVID 19. These regulations may change as time goes on as requirements may be added or removed in such a fluid situation.

We want to let you know of what we are doing to ensure that you are staying safe:

  • Increased disinfection of the vision therapy room and equipment.

  • The therapy room will be fully disinfected in between each patient in accordance to the guidelines set out by the Chief Medical Officer.

  • Spacing out therapy sessions to allow for extra disinfection.

  • Your therapist will be wearing a mask, and a face shield.

  • Your therapist will make every attempt to respect social distancing in the therapy room, when this is not possible extra measures will be taken to ensure your safety.

  • Certain therapy equipment will no longer be shared, you will receive your own to keep until the end of your therapy time.

To ensure everyone’s safety we require cooperation from each patient and their families. We have some new rules that we need everyone to follow to allow us to best serve you:

  • We ask that patients are on time for their session, and that parents picking up children arrive 10 minutes prior to the end of your scheduled therapy time. Extra time cannot not be accommodated if patients are late.

  • We ask that patients wait at the top of the back stairs (on the South side of the building) until your therapist comes up to get you. Patients will be entering the therapy room through the back stairs and door to avoid interaction in the waiting room. If you are a parent, at the end of therapy please wait at the top of the stairs, the therapist will come out with your child and will explain the homework.

  • Patients will be required to sanitize their hands upon entering the vision therapy room.

  • Please bring all home therapy equipment to each session, including any markers, flippers and coloured glasses given.

  • We ask that patients respect social distancing rules when possible, and follow guidance from the therapist to maintain a 2m distance when possible

  • It is a requirement that all patients (anyone over the age of 2) wear a mask to therapy. Please put the mask on in the car before entering the therapy room. This can be a cloth mask.

  • Parents will not be allowed in the therapy room at this time. Your therapist will go over every home therapy exercise with you at the end of the session. We are always available for questions regarding your homework via email during business hours.

  • Parents are asked to either leave and return at the end of your therapy time or they can wait in their car. Parents will not be permitted to wait in the waiting room upstairs. Please respect a 2m distance when the therapist comes to explain the home therapy.

  • If you answer yes to ANY of the following, please contact us immediately and do not attend therapy:

    • Do you have a fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing?

    • Have you tested positive for COVID-19 or had an acute respiratory illness in the past 14 days? Have you been in close contact with anyone that has tested positive for COVID-19 or has had an acute respiratory illness in the past 14 days?

    • Have you traveled outside of Ontario in the past 14 days?

  • Payment: to avoid crowding in our waiting room, we will be putting through the payment at the end of your session on the credit card on file. A receipt will be sent electronically, and the credit card slip will be given to you at your next visit. If you are not comfortable with this we ask that you pay with exact cash placed in an envelope and given to the therapist at the end of the session.
