MISSISSAUGA VISION THERAPY CENTER
VISION THERAPY FOR STRABISMUS (EYE TURN) OR AMBLYOPIA (LAZY EYE)
Vision therapy is a non-surgical treatment for strabismus and amblyopia. The goal of vision therapy my differ from one patient to the other depending on their condition. For most of our patients our goals is to gain full control of the eye turn so it is no longer cosmetically visibly, and so we can make functional gains such as depth perception, tracking, and visual acuity. For others our goal may be to stabilize vision and allow the use to prism to reduce double vision, or to reduce suppression to allow for better outcome with subsequent surgical intervention. Vision therapy for amblyopia is an alternative form of treatment to traditional patching and has been show to be effective in improving visual acuity and functional gains.
VISION THERAPY FOR CONCUSSION RELATED VISION DEFICIENCIES
A concussion or a traumatic brain injury can disrupt how the brain and the eyes communicate. In its essence we do our "seeing" with our brain, and a concussion or a brain injury changes how our brain does these day to day processes. This can cause double vision, blurry vision, headaches, difficulty concentrating on near tasks, light sensitivity, difficulty in busy environments, losing our place while reading, re-reading sentences and pages, dizziness and difficulty with mobility. Vision therapy can help to reteach the brain how to communicate with the eyes and allow for vision to re-establish itself in an efficient and functional manner.
VISION THERAPY FOR LEARNING RELATED VISION DEFICIENCIES
80% of learning is done through the visual system. Challenges with our accommodative, vergence, tracking and perceptual system can cause blurry vision while reading, double vision while reading, headaches with extended near work, poor concentration on near tasks, losing our place while reading, frequently skipping words or letters, poor comprehension of text, reversals of letters or words, etc. Vision therapy can help remediate these visual challenges and remove vision as a barrier to your child's learning
