The Eye Gym Mississauga
Vision therapy is an evidence-based treatment designed to improve binocularity and enhance overall visual function. At The Eye Clinic Mississauga, we believe that no two patients are alike. That’s why Dr. Ceaus and her vision therapist Sophie, take a personalized, compassionate approach, creating a tailored program of therapeutic eye exercises and treatments unique to each individual’s needs.
For many patients, vision therapy can be life-changing—helping make reading more comfortable, supporting extended near work, reducing headaches, double vision, and dizziness, and even improving balance and coordination. By addressing the root causes of visual challenges, we not only enhance sight but also help patients feel more confident and connected in their daily lives.
What can vision therapy help with:
Strabismus and Amblyopia
Vision therapy offers a powerful, evidence-based approach to treating conditions such as an eye turn (strabismus) and lazy eye (amblyopia) by teaching the brain how to use both eyes together more effectively. At The Eye Clinic Mississauga, our customized therapy programs are designed to strengthen visual skills, promote binocular vision, and retrain the connection between the eyes and the brain.
This comprehensive treatment strategy can lead to improved depth perception, better eye coordination, and enhanced overall visual function—helping patients experience more comfortable vision and greater confidence in daily activities.
Learning Related Vision Disorders
Did you know there are 17 different visual skills involved in reading and learning? From focusing at near, coordinating the eyes for depth perception, smoothly tracking letters and words, to processing and integrating visual information—these complex skills all work together behind the scenes. When even one of these skills is disrupted, it can trigger a domino effect, making the rest less efficient.
Research shows that up to 80% of children with learning difficulties have an underlying visual deficit that impacts their performance. At The Eye Clinic Mississauga, we understand how essential vision is for effective reading and academic success. Through personalized vision therapy programs, we work to strengthen deficient visual skills, helping children read more comfortably, reduce frustration, and reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond.
Concussion
Have you experienced a concussion and still struggle with dizziness, eye strain, difficulty reading, ongoing blurry vision, or trouble using screens? Many patients describe simply “feeling off,” yet find it hard to explain their symptoms to others. Research shows that up to 70% of people who suffer a concussion develop lasting visual problems—including double vision, difficulty focusing, and poor eye tracking—that often go undiagnosed or untreated.
While you may have tried other therapies, the root cause is often a disruption in the visual system. At The Eye Clinic Mississauga, we take a compassionate, evidence-based approach to vision therapy to help the brain heal, retrain how to process visual information, and restore communication with the vestibular system. With personalized therapy plans, our goal is to help you regain comfort, clarity, and confidence in your daily life.

Dr. Ceaus believes that every treatment decision should be a collaborative conversation between the doctor, the patient, and the family. With a compassionate and thoughtful approach, she takes the time to truly listen, building meaningful connections and tailoring care to each patient’s unique needs.

“My favourite thing about vision therapy,” she shares, “is witnessing how even a small adjustment—whether it’s a change in prescription or guiding someone through specific exercises—can transform a person’s daily life. It’s remarkable to see how improved vision can change not only how they function, but how they experience and enjoy the world around them.”
What is the process of being assessed for vision therapy?
1
The first step is always a comprehensive eye exam. This allows us to carefully assess your visual system, screen for binocular vision disorders, and, most importantly, rule out any underlying eye disease that may be contributing to your symptoms.
2
The next step is a detailed binocular vision assessment, designed to uncover the root of your visual concerns. During this appointment, your doctor will take the time to listen carefully to your symptoms and review a thorough history of your condition. Using specialized testing, we evaluate all 17 visual skills that play a role in comfortable, efficient vision, identifying which ones may be contributing to your challenges. From there, we provide personalized recommendations tailored to your needs—empowering you with clear options and guidance so you can make the best decision for your overall wellbeing.
3
The third step is recommended on an as-needed basis, depending on your unique visual needs. In some cases, we may suggest visual perceptual testing to gain deeper insight into how your brain processes visual information. In other situations, a prism trial may be performed to explore whether a specialized prescription can reduce strain and improve your visual comfort. Each step is thoughtfully chosen to ensure you receive personalized care that truly supports your overall wellbeing.
Treatment Strategies
Treatment options are customized to each patient and may include specialized prescription glasses with reading corrections, compensatory prisms, or therapeutic prism lenses. In some cases, Syntonic light therapy is recommended to help calm the nervous system and support improved visual outcomes. Vision therapy is often used as well to rehabilitate the visual system and create lasting, permanent change. Depending on your needs, one—or a thoughtful combination—of these treatments may be recommended to provide the best pathway toward comfortable, efficient vision.
